Although Costa Rica is not the first country you think of for GF travel, typical Costa Rican dishes are usually gluten free - vegetables and rice and a source of protein are staples in the Costa Rican diet.

Although a typical Costa Rican diet is generally gluten free, sometimes you just want a bowl of pasta, or a delicious sandwich. We have found a few local shops that carry some gluten free staples for your pantry.

Almacen Organic and Natural Grocery Store is a health and bulk food store in Playa Tamarindo.

​

Feria Verde Guana Huacas is an open air market in Huacas on Wednesday's from 9am-3pm. It has organic vegetables and fruits, smoked meats, work from local artisans and flowers.

​

Automercardo has the best GF selection of bread items we found. Also in Tamarindo.

​

PriceSmart has a larger selection of GF items if you are planning for a longer stay in Costa Rica. Memberships are approximately $35. They are located across from the Liberia Airport.
